Beef, dairy and marketing officials are working closely to develop a plan to appease every industry affected by the new Livestock Identification Program.

The program is designed to trace animal borne diseases to their origins. Many felt the program would be too costly and difficult to maintain.

In December the Livestock Marketing Association submitted the 12 Principle Program to Congress.

The plan is designed to cost producers the least amount of money possible. It also states that the tagging should be done based on a specie to specie basis and should operate at the speed of commerce. For more details on the program click here.
